Dr Shekhar Salkar, a surgical oncologist trained at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, has been a pioneering force in Goa’s cancer and tobacco-control movement. From establishing the state’s first Tobacco Cessation Clinic to championing tobacco-control legislation, cancer awareness, integrative oncology and community healthcare, his work has touched countless lives.
Dr Medha Salkar’s more than three decades of public service reflect an equally inspiring commitment to preventive and community healthcare. From strengthening rural health services and dialysis care to vaccination, cancer screening, organ-donation awareness and frontline COVID-19 service, her contribution has consistently placed community welfare at the centre.
Their felicitation was more than an honour—it was a celebration of a shared philosophy: medicine finds its highest purpose when knowledge is transformed into service and compassion.
