Baga: A six-year-old girl drowned on Sunday at Baga beach after she ventured to play in the sand.
A senior police officer said that the girl drowned while playing at Baga Beach on Sunday evening. She was the daughter of a tea stall owner who runs a shop at Calangute beach, and the family had come to Baga beach to enjoy the holiday, he said.
As per the complaint filed at the police station, the girl slipped out of her brother’s hand and disappeared into the waters while they were playing.
As the frantic search for the girl began, the Tourist Police constables stationed at the beach immediately alerted the lifeguards, the fire brigade, and the entire tourism police staff.
The Tourist Police recovered Zoya’s body about a kilometre away from the spot where she had gone missing, police said.
“Despite showing faint signs of life, immediate CPR administered by the police proved unsuccessful in reviving her. She was taken to the Candolim Primary Health Centre where she was declared brought in dead,” he said.
