1311 liquor licences are pending for renewal along highway- Govt informs House

Panaji: In all 1311 liquor licences are pending for renewal along the highways post Supreme Court order, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told State Assembly today.

Parrikar said that the anticipated loss of revenue to the Government by way of liquor license fees in respect of licenses not renewed is approximately Rs. 87 lakhs for the current financial year.

He was responding to the Questions tabled by BJP MLA Glen Ticlo and Congress MLA Digamber Kamat.

Ponda taluka has the maximum number of liquor licences pending renewal that is 271, followed by Salcete which has 188, Bardez has 160 and Pernem has 128. There are 102 liquor licenses pending in Mormugao, 100 in Tiswadi, 96 each in Sanguem and Bicholim, 82 in Canacona, 46 in Sattari and 42 in Quepem.

The revenue generated on account of licence fees during the year 2017-18 is Rs. 13,06,79,302/-. For the period 01/04/2018 till date an amount of Rs. 16,09,76,618/- has been collected as licence fees.
