Vishwajit Rane seeks investigation by central team into deaths of tigers

Panaji: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane  has sought detailed investigation by Central team to investigate into the incident of two deaths of tiger in state’s Mahadayi Wildlife Sanctuary in Sattari taluka.

While first tiger was found dead on Sunday, the second carcass was recovered by forest department team on Tuesday evening at Golavali village in Sattari taluka, 60 kms away from Panaji.

Rane, in whose assembly constituency the incidents have happened, has asked Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Prakash Javadekar to send central team to investigate the incidents.

Goa Forest Department has already begun investigation and rounded up four suspects from the local village.

Rane tweeted “with reference to the two cubs that have been found dead at Mahadayi wildlife Sanctuary, Sattari, I would requestion Union Minister for Forest Shri @PrakashJavdekar to intervene and send a central team to conduct a detailed investigation into the matter.”

“Having a passion for wildlife, especially tigers, this incident in my constituency at Valpoi has taken me by shock. A thorough investigation into the matter is vital. It is very important to stop such mishaps as it is our duty to conserve and protect wildlife,” he said in another tweet.
