Panaji: Goa Forward party chief Vijai Sardesai has written to state chief secretary demanding criminal probe and FIR against Smart city contractor.
The letter was written after concrete retailing wall at Taad-Maad, St Inez collapsed on June 10.
“This structural failure appears to be the direct result of shoddy workmanship and negligence by the smart city contractor responsible for constructing a trdnch along the adjoining road,” Sardesai said.
He said that the contractor’s slow pace of work and failure to take necessary safety measures have left the trench open for an excessive duration, consequently weakening the retaining structure.
“Furthermore, this negligence’ has placed the surrounding structures, including an old Banyan tree adjacent to the trench, at severe risk, especially with the onset of the monsoon weakening the soil between the trench and these structures. The concerned contractor has a known history of substandard work in various departments, including Water Resources, Tourism, and others,” he said.
Sardesai said that it has also come to my knowledge that the sewerage pipeline has been installed at a depth of around half a meter instead of the required one meter.
“Additionally, the lack of proper slope maintenance is expected to result in a reverse flow of sewage,” he added.
