Panaji: Goa’s tourism calender will have events like Ironman 70.3, Eco music festival and Sunburn during the current year.
State Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte told reporters that Goa Tourism Board has granted in-principal approval for various events of international standards that would be held in the State during this year.
The Board on Wednesday gave in principal approval for hosting of Sunburn Festival in the coastal state during the month of December.
Khaunte said that the Sunburn festival organisers have been given in-principal clearance with the condition that the representation for Goan musicians should be given during the event.
“We told them that if they want they can plan festival for four days instead of three. But there should be a stage for Goan musicians. It should not be just Electronic Dance Music Festival,” Khaunte said.
The Board on Wednesday met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. Khaunte, being State Tourism Minister, is a co-chairman of the Board.
The minister said that the Sunburn Festival should also showcase Goan culture and the theme.
In yet another mega-event, Eco Music festival, that took place in India once, wants to host its next event in Goa. Khaunte said that the Board has given in-principal approval for the festival, which will also showcase Goan culture, along with its original concept.
The tourism minister said that Ironman 70.3, which was held in Goa once, wants to come back. The Board has also granted in-principle approval for the event.
During the meeting, the Board also discussed challenges before the tourism sector after commission of International Airport at Mopa in North Goa. The first phas of the Airport is expected to commission in September, this year.
Various investment proposals in the tourism sector, that are stranded with different departments were also discussed in the meeting, Khaunte said adding that the state government is working on Single Window system for such projects.
