Goa govt will write to Bombay HC urging to use Konkani as official language

Panaji: Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the state will government will write to the Bombay High Court urging to list Konkan along with English as the official language to conduct the Court proceedings.

 

Sawant said this while addressing eight International Hindi Conference in Panaji.

 

“At present, Bombay High Court at Goa functions only in English but it should be held in both the languages, English and Konkani,” the chief minister said.

 

Sawant said that when we go to the judiciary to seek justice, we should to ensure that it should function in English as well as in Konkani.

 

The chief minister said that he will soon write to the Bombay High Court expressing his apprehensions.

 

Speaking about Hindi language, Sawant said that promoting Hindi will not only make India even more united in its diversity but it will also help the country to emerge as Akhand Bharat.

 

“We will do everything to promote Hindi in Goa and give equal importance to the regional languages,” he commented.
