Panaji: The largescale illegal fishing has been reported in the backwaters of Dongari, Khazans by group of non-Goans, which has been continuing for past few months.
The locals complaint that these groups arrive with a pick up van and equipment pretending to be employed by Sluice Gate contractor and conduct the fishing. The locals, however, have said that they have their own doubts.
St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar was approached by the locals over the issue, a month back, but they are yet to see any redressal of their issues.
Social worker Ramrao Wagh has asked who are these sluice gate contractors who have invited these persons?
He has expressed fear that this will hamper the fishing tradition in the village.
