DMC College joins unique cause, NSS unit organises blood camp

Mapusa:One of the noblest causes towards which human beings can contribute with pride is that of donating blood.  The task of organizing and spreading awareness about this life saving cause was very enthusiastically taken up by the NSS Unit of Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao Goa.
Keeping with the tradition of blood donation and raising awareness about this noble cause of saving lives, the NSS unit of Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao organized a blood donation camp on 10th August, 2018.
The camp was very professionally organised by the college NSS unit in collaboration with Goa Medical College, Bambolim-Goa.
The camp witnessed a good response with 87 donors donating blood which included NSS volunteers, faculty members and local people.
Each volunteers donated 350 ml (1 unit) of blood. Our volunteers donated 30450 ml (350×87) of Blood to the Goa Medical College, Bambolim.
Before the commencement of the camp, Dr. Pascoal D’Souza; Medical Officer and Social Worker; Ms. Poonam Ghatwal instructed each donor about the dietary intake before donating blood and gave suggestions as to the care to be taken after donation of blood, stressing more on intake of water and avoidance of any form of exercise thereafter.
They also informed about the advantages of donating blood and stated that people who regularly donate blood have been found to have less chances of suffering from heart attack and cancer.
Moreover, the amount of blood removed from the body is replaced within 8-10 days from the date of donating blood.
At the conclusion of the camp, the doctor and other support staff said that organizing such blood donation camps in colleges and institutions plays an important role in spreading awareness about this noble cause in which Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s is always at the forefront.
They appreciated the co-operation extended by the Principal, NSS Programme Officers and NSS volunteers in the smooth and efficient conduct of the camp.
More than 120 donors participated in this blood donation camp.
