Porvorim: Former Goa chief minister Pratapsingh Rane questioned on the floor of the House whether consuming local alcoholic brew like `feni’ and `hurrack’ can cause cancer.
The former chief minister was speaking during Question Hour on the issue related to number of cancer cases.
“Do you have a study on kind of cancers that are faced by people in Goa? Have you conducted a study on it,” Rane questioned Health minister Vishwajit Rane.
“It is a well known fact that smoking causes cancer. But we have to also know whether drinking local alcoholic brew like Feni and Hurrack can cause cancer?,” he said, urging the minister to conduct the survey and place it on the table of the House.
The Health minister said that state government have a statistics on kind of cancer. “Maximum cases in the state are that of breast cancer, followed by head and neck and then others,” he said.
