Panaji: With the announcement of by-election for Panaji, BJP has begun preparing to contest this Assembly seat which is crucial considering that it was held by former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar before his demise.
The seat is also crucial as party is also contemplating the possibility to field Parrikar’s elder son, Utpal for the upcoming by-election scheduled on May 19.
“The party is gearing up to face Panaji by-election. The process to select the candidates will soon start,” party’s Goa spokesman Damodar Naik said.
He said that the party will shortlist the candidate and final call would be taken by bodies like Election Committee and Parliamentary board.
When asked whether Utpal’s name may figure in the list, Naik said that “there are few names which are being discussed, and details about them would be revealed only when final announcement is done.”
“BJP has a system within it. The selection of candidate will done after conducting detailed survey in the constituency and also points like loyalty, winnability and sacrifices done by the candidate for the party will be considered,” he said.
