30 per cent rise in accidents in Goa during Diwali weekend

Panaji: Goa received 30 per cent more emergency calls related to road traffic accidents (RTAs) on the Diwali weekend, which also saw people celebrating the festival of “Narakasur Vadh.”

The 108 Ambulance service, an initiative of EMRI Green Services,  claimed that they received 65 calls related to road accidents on Saturday and Sunday, which were 30 per cent more than the daily average.

The spokesman of the service, which is operating as a part of state-government initiative, said that of the total accidents reported during the weekend, 90 per cent were involving the two-wheelers.

He said that the EMRI Health services received total 1,191 emergency calls during the weekend of which 528 were received on November 11 and 663 on November 12.

The emergencies were related to different exigencies including the health emergency, the spokesman said.
