Margao: In a shocking decision, South Goa Collector Ajit Roy, who works under Disaster Management Act, has issued instructions to stop the admissions of healthcare workers into Margao Residency.

The healthcare workers, attached to various covid facilities, were designated to stay at Margao Residency to keep their families safe from any probable infection.

Sources stated that Roy has instructed Margao Residency to suddenly stop admitting the Healthcare workers, which has created huge inconvenience and distress amongst these frontline warriors, who have been risking their lives in the fight against COVID-19.

Roy has used his powers under Disaster Management Act to stop the admissions, which goes against the spirit of the Act.

Several Healthcare workers have been staying at this facility in the heart of Margao so that they don’t have to travel back to their native, saving the families from any possibility of infection.

The decision of Roy is likely to increase the infection further to those pockets which has been saved from the virus.

It may be recalled that after outbreak at Mangor Hill, the healthcare workers and police were the first one to get infected, who eventually travelled to their natives carrying the virus. The healthcare workers have requested the government to ensure that Roy withdraws his order immediately.
