Taleigao: Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday met Revenue Minister Jeniffer Monserratte pointing out that breached sluice gates are becoming a major nuisance for the farmers in the state.
Khaunte who had raised the issue on different forums including that in the legislative Assembly met Monserratte at Taleigao Panchayat on Wednesday.
Talking to reporters, Khaunte said that the issue has been highlighted often by him as the farmers are facing the problem due to breach of sluice gates at Char Manas and Sao Paul.
He said that the Tanent Associations, who were involved in purposely breached sluice gates had assured to compensate the farmers for the loses, but had later withdrawn their promise.
Khaunte said that the issue is getting bigger which might create law and order situation in the area.
The Porvorim MLA said that the Revenue Minister should issue proper directions to be given to the officers so as to avoid law and order problems.
Khaunte said that the Revenue Minister has assured to sort out the issue within 8-10 days.
She has said that the report would be sought from the concern officials on the issue. Khaunte said that he has appealed the farmers to maintain peace in the area.
