Panaji: The State Ministry for Tourism and Ministry for Archives and Archaeology had identified and proposed the heritage monuments and sites for development and maintenance under Union Government’s ‘Adopt of Heritage’ scheme.

The documents available with Goa News Hub reveals that the State Tourism Minister Manohar Azgaonkar via a letter dated March 29 had communicated to the Union Ministry of Tourism about their necessary co-operation to the ‘noble’ initiative”.

The revelation comes almost a week after Minister for Tourism Manohar Azgaonkar and his colleagues Minister for Archives Vijay Sardessai and Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar had expressed shock that the State was kept in dark about the same. Even the ruling BJP had claimed that it is not aware about the same.

The Union Ministry had on December 28, 2017 attached a letter to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar with regards to ‘conservation and development of heritage monuments/ sites under Adopt of Heritage: Apni Dharohar, Apni Pehchan’.

“Government of Goa is please to extend necessary co-operation to be noble initiative undertaken by the Ministry for development and maintenance of world-class tourist infrastructure and amenities at the heritage monuments and sites and tourists sites all over the country,” Azgaonkar said in the letter.

“The State Ministry of Tourism in association with the State Ministry of Archives and Archaeology has prepared a list of heritage monuments/sites in the State of Goa, which would be undertaken as a part of said project under Phase II,” Minister added.

It has enclosed list of 17 sites that include series of churches including Basilica Bom Jesus, Aguada Fort and Lighthouse, Morjim beach, Chapora Fort and Cabo-De-Rama fort.

  1. Who is TTAG and State Govt or Ministers to decide the specific deal without people of Goa taking into consideration about this contract? Religious Churches are to taken care by ASI as per Central Govt policy if not keep them close only for adoration for locals. These so called Ministers cannot read and write in Englis so they sign anything and everything comes to their desk with packet of Commissions.

  2. The MGP have recently opposed the installation of the statue of Dr.Jack de Sequeira who had fought and won the Opinion Poll n 1967 purely Dr.Sequeira was coming from minority community. Now again the MGP same party have written to central govt to adopt the World Heritage site Basilica at Old Goa. We condemned the BJP move to adopt the Basilica Heritage.
