Panaji: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday said that his department will suspend 4-5 drivers attached to ambulance services in North District Hospital, Mapusa for making the vehicles non-functional.

He said that these drivers deliberately make the ambulances non-functional. “Such people don’t deserve to be in government services,” he said.

Rane stated that people in emergency services should be employed on a hire-and-fire basis to ensure accountability.

The minister added that the department is planning to bring all ambulances under the 108 initiative.

He further mentioned that the government is in the process of procuring more ambulances to reduce response time further.
