Govt notifies fresh rules for DMF; registers it as a trust

Panaji: After being pulled up by the Bombay High Court at Goa over constitution of the District Mineral Foundation (DMF), the State Government has notified it as a trust, which would be headed by District Collectors.

Directorate of Mines and Geology (DMG) has notified the Goa District Mineral Foundation (Trust) Rules, 2018.

The objective of the District Mineral Foundation Trust is to work for the interests, benefits and sustainable development of persons and areas affected by mining or mining related operations in the district. To utilize the funds accumulated in the District Mineral Foundation Trust in an effective, transparent and accountable manner and at the same time ensuring the benefit of the funds are enjoyed not only by the present generation but the future generation to come.

The trust will comprise of governing council and managing council. While the head office will be located in the DMG office,  it may also set up an office at the district level for the purposes of coordination, planning monitoring accounting and public disclosure of information.

The Governing council will comprise of District Collectors as chairperson/ trustee and 16 other members representing various departments.
