Panaji: Goa government on Tuesday decided to formulate Solid Waste Management Policy, 2019 which will decide the roadmap for collection, segregation and treating of all kind of waste in the state, Chief minister Pramod Sawant said.

Emerging from the meeting of Goa Solid Waste Management Corporation, Sawant said that the policy would touch upon all the aspects of collecting, segregation and treating the waste.

“We will be the first state to treat all kind of waste including e-waste, bio medical waste and hazardous waste,” Sawant told reporters.

He said that the policy will also decide on the places where the waste would be treated. “Currently, Goa has treatment plant at Saligao (North Goa) while more plants are expected to come up at Cacora, Verna (both South Goa) and Bainguinim (North Goa),” he said.

Sawant said that State government has already identified lands in various Industrial Estates to treat e-waste and bio-medical waste.

He said that the state government will have a partnership with private firms for treating hazardous waste.
