Chennai: The Goan senior men’s team, who participated in the 14th Senior Men’s National Championship at Chennai, achieved a spectacular victory.
On 6th November, Goa played a tough match against Hockey Jharkhand, one of the best teams in the country. The score was 1–3. It was described as the most challenging game, as announced by the commentator, after 16 matches had been played so far. On 10th November, the Goan team played again against the formidable Hockey Maharashtra, who had trashed Gujarat with 30 goals. Goa maintained their spirit with strong defense, scoring 5 goals. In the second half, the players employed a powerful defensive strategy, preventing Maharashtra from scoring any more goals.
Today, the Goans secured a spectacular victory against Gujarat, who scored 6 goals. The goals were scored by Ayyaz Khan, Suyesh Mayekar, Abhishek Pathak (2 goals), Issub Sayed, and Vassudev. The team was trained by Eliter Fernandes (SAG coach), with senior players Aviraj Madgaonkar and Riyaz Kambali, and the team was managed by Inacio Fernandes. This marked their first victory under the leadership of President Abhay Bhamaikar and Secretary Farrel Gracias.
