Panaji:  Following political developments in Karnataka, the Congress Legislative party in Goa will stake claim tomorrow before Governor Mridula Sinha to form the government in the state being the single largest party in the legislative assembly.
Congress Legislative Party chief Chandrakant Kavlekar has today written to Goa Governor seeking an appointment tomorrow to stake claim for government formation.
Confirming the development, Kavelkar said that all the 16 MLAs will March to Raj Bhavan tomorrow to stake claim for government formation as even today we are the single largest party.

He said that the Governor should follow the precedent set by Karnataka counterpart and invite the single largest party to form the government correcting her mistake which she did on March 12, 2017 after State Legislative assembly results.

“We have 16 legislators with us and with that strength we are the single largest party in the Assembly. Governor should invite us to form the government in Goa as per the precedent set by her Karnataka counterpart,” Kavlekar said.

The 40 seat Goa legislative assembly has 16 Congress, 14 BJP, Three each from Goa Forward party, MGP and Independents and one from NCP legislators.

BJP has formed the government in alliance with GFP, MGP and Independents in March last year inducting Manohar Parrikar as the chief minister. Parrikar is currently being treated in the USA for his pancreatic ailment.
