Panaji: In a major goof-up, Directorate of Education has overruled the Office Memorandum by General Administration making it mandatory for all the teaching and non teaching staffs in aided institutions to attend the work on daily basis.
The Office Memorandum on April 21 by General Administration, which was issued in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases, had covered aided-institutions including primary, high, middle and higher secondary schools under its ambit.
The circular had mentioned that police, home guards civil defence, fire and emergency services, disaster management, prison, prison, treasury, district administration , forest department and municipal services will function without any restrictions.
But, all other government departments of the state to work with restricted staff. Group A, B officers shall attend. Group C and level below that may attend up to 50 per cent strength.
A day after the Office Memorandum, Directorate of Education has issued a circular making it mandatory to the teaching and non-teaching staff to attend the school.
The circular has created panic as the cluttered staff rooms pose a threat of spread of the virus. Also several teachers including those in the Higher Secondary schools are in the Group C category, who are also forced to attend the work on regular basis, violating the Office of Memorandum.
