Margao: After ruling for several decades in Margao, former Congress CM turned current BJP MLA Digambar Kamat’s attempt to satisfy his close aides could be a reason for his debacle in his own constituency.
The close analysis of Margao constituency, two years ahead of the Goa Legislative Assembly election, reveals that Digambar Kamat will have to adopt corrective measures to save himself from facing the debacle.
The recent polling for BJP candidate Pallavi Dempo during Lok Sabha election is a clear indication that Digambar Kamat is losing his grip over the constituency.
His stronghold areas like Moti Donor are showing distrust on him, as per the Lok Sabha results.
To make the things worst, Digambar Kamat after shifting to BJP, has failed to get ministerial berth, despite his repeated attempts.
His poor performance during Lok Sabha election is one of the reason why is not no more a poster boy in the BJP.
The recent emergence of two prominent leaders — Chirag Naik, Prabhav Naik and Savio Coutinho — will also eat into his traditional vote bank. Interestingly, both have worked closely with Digambar.
Chirag Naik’s comments like “There is Somalia in Margao” and Prabhav’s continued tirade against Digambar is finding traction in this constituency.
The functioning of Margao Municipal Council under the Digambar Kamat’s blue-eye boy Damodar Shirodkar is also earning negative points for the MLA.
Vijai Sardesai has made inroads in the constituency right from the beginning and he has the capacity to damage Digambar to a large extend.
Upcoming Municipal elections are likely to be a litmus-test for Digambar Kamat, who had managed to sail through last time with the help of Vijai Sardesai.
Both the stalwarts are now arch-rivals.
The functioning of Margao Municipal council is clearly reflecting on Digambar Kamat’s failure to control his own council.
While the countdown has already began for the municipal elections, Digambar Kamat’s aspiration to field his son, Yogiraj is also being watched closely.
