Margao: The Goa Pradesh Congress Commitee has described the death of multifaceted personality Dadu Mandrekar from Mandrem as a great loss to the dalit community, literature field and Goa.

Dadu Mandrekar, writer and social activist, had dedicated his entire life to the dalit movement and had spearheaded it to minimise the pains of people.

The GPCC president Girish Chodankar said that Dadu’s untimely demise is a loss to the entire community of dalit and literature field.

“I am deeply saddened. A great loss for Goa. Dadu through his literature and columns on news papers had always highlighted the problems of dalits and also current issues of Goa. We will miss him always.” Chodankar said.

Dadu Mandrekar’s poetry collection Shapit Surya (Accursed Sun) and Bahishkrut Gomantak (Boycotted Goa) focuses on Dalit life. His literature speaks about the pain dalit community suffered.

Dadu Mandrekar, follower of Babasaheb Ambedkar, used to always praise his contribution for dalits and India.

Dadu read the biography of Dr. Ambedkar at the age of 16 and realised the life of latter. Later Dadu Mandrekar wrote book on his life titled as “Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Aantarrashtriy mahatva aanni mahaatmya” (डॉ. बाबासाहेब आंबेडकर आंतरराष्ट्रीय महत्व आणी महात्म्य)

Decade ago Dadu Mandrekar had exhibited natures photographs in capital city Panaji under the name “Beyond The Pain and Pleasure”. This had encouraged him to work more in this field and had received many awards.

“Not only in literature, but Dadu had potentials to showcase his skills also through photographs. We loved his work and hence he will be always missed.” Chodankar said.
