Crime branch arrests man for selling tobacco at Margao

Margao: Goa Police’s Crime Branch team has arrested a local trader for trying to sell banned tobacco products in Margao market illegally.

Huge stocks of different types of contraband products were seized from a premise at Dabolim, Margao in a raid conducted at 3:30pm today.

“An information was received regarding various illegal tobacco products at a premises in Davorlim, Margao. During the raid by the Crime Branch team, a variety of illegal tobacco products all worth Rs12 lakh in the market were seized. The tobacco products were brought illegally and were about to be distributed to the various shops in and around Margao,” Superintendent of Crime Branch Pankaj Kumar told reporters.

The trader Abdul Hamid Mansur, aged 24 yrs from Margao is in the custody.

The team was formed headed by PI Jivba Dalvi consisting of PI Paresh Naik, PI Narayan Chimulkar, PSI Nitin Halarnkar, ASI Dattaram Naik, LHG Pratima Sawal, constables Vinay Sawant and Prakash Utkuri.

The FIR under section 87 (a) & 87(f) of Goa Daman Diu Public Health Amendment Act has been registered.
Further investigation is in progress.
