Panaji: Hours after Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao tweeted reacting to the Supreme Court decision to postpone hearing on Disqualification Petition, BJP’s Goa General Secretary Narendra Sawaikar said that the contempt petition should be filed against the Congress leader.
Sawaikar tweeted “Contempt proceedings should be initiated against Mr Rao for the contemptuous, malicious and irresponsible statements casting aspersions on the Hon Judges of the SC. His frustration is palpable.”
Reacting to the Supreme Court’s decision to adjourn his plea seeking disqualification of 10 Goa MLAs who had shifted from Congress to BJP, a senior Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao commented “looks like defections by BJP has the backing of the Supreme Court.
Goa Congress Chief Girish Chodankar had petitioned Supreme Court on August 11, 2020 that his plea seeking disqualification of 10 MLAs who had switched over from his party to BJP in July, 2019. The Apex Court Bench comprising Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramaian on Monday adjourned to February, the petition.
Reacting to the Court order, Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao, who is party in-charge of Goa state, tweeted “By the time Hon’ble Judges decide to hear and dispose of the disqualification petition, it will be infructous as elections in Goa will be in year. The CJI seems to have his priorities set. Looks like defections by BJP has the backing of the Supreme Court.”
