Panaji: Union Ministry for Shipping has fulfilled the demand of Seamen to exempt the mandatory qualification of SSC for issuing Continous Discharge Certificate after Goa Forward Party Chief and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai communicated to him with the demand.

The Union Shipping ministry in its order dated July 14, 2017  which came into effect from January 11, 2018 had made SSC mandatory for issuing the CDC.

Sardesai had written letter to Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari on February 01, 2018 bringing to his attention the hardship faced by the Seamen community of Goa due to the rule.

He had requested that necessary directions should be given to the department to take corrective measures and that the said notice be amended in the inerest of persons working for past many years and who need to apply for CDCs to continue their service.

Responding to the letter, the ministry today issued order stating that the conditon has been dispensed with.

This has come as a big relief to the thousands of Seamen from Goa and also other part of the country.
