The Aam Aadmi Party quepem unit has pointed out that the serene and calm environment at Sirvoi in Quepem was under threat of massive pollution due to large scale dumping of in segregated garbage at the municipal site at Padimoll there in. An AAP team led by aap leader Tribio Goes that visited the site released videos of the situation showing rotting mixed waste which was indiscriminately dumped without following the Solid Waste Management Rules. He’s said that the stench and smoke was all one could experience there with garbage full of plastic waste being set on fire releasing toxic gases without any concern for public health. “ Some years ago, when Ms Theresa was the chairperson, garbage was getting processed at site and things were under control. But now there is complete collapse of administration with mass dumping of garbage generating leachate that can contaminate ground water” said Goes.
Questioning the BJP Government, AAP leader Sidharth Karapukar said that they had made tall claims of solving garbage problems within 18 months of coming to power in 2012. He also said that since BJP has reneged on the assurance of removal of Casinos from Mandovi which was made in 2012 , by now calling it as part of Goa tourism, people were left to wonder whether garbage which is mounting across the state was left unchecked as part of Goa tourism since it was also to be solved as part of the 2012 manifesto. Aap Quepem Coordinator Patricia Fernandes said, that the Quepem municipality has just been burning the garbage, and has dumped most of the garbage in the quarry and has covered it with mud. Moreover the Quepem municipality is charging RS. 2/- per day, which is difficult for the common man to pay.
