Woes of Cuncoliekars finally heard!!! Rs 8.8cr work to revamp power distribution system sanctioned

Panaji: In what could give major relief to the people of Cuncolim constituency, who had taken on streets against erratic power supply, the State government has approved work worth Rs 8.8 crore to revamp the power distribution system for the constituency that will include installation of new transformers, new high tension wires, poles and conductors.

Addressing press conference, Goa Forward Party (GFP) leader Yuri Alemo has thanked party President Vijai Sardesai for his intervention and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral for the support.

“You all are aware that there was huge problem faced by the people of Cuncolim constituency specially the municipal areas over erratic power supply.  Last two years, there has been major breakdown of electricity infrastructure in the constituency. Time and over again people came out on the streets on the issue but nothing happened,” he said.

He pointed out that former power minister Pandurang Madkaikar was on record that 7.5 crore tender would be floated for the constituency; however, due his illness, the same got stuck in the finance department.

“On August 31, 2018- we submitted a memorandum to our party president Vijai Sardesai highlighting the problems faced by the people and that file was stuck in finance department. Within three months, works worth Rs 8.8 crore is sanctioned, the contractor is finalized and that the work order will be issued in two days,” he said.

Spelling out details of the work, Alemao said that transformers at existing 34 locations will be revamped while new transformers are proposed in 14 sites.

He said that high tension wires were very old so 44.5 kms of these wires will be replaced. Apart from this, another 11.2 kms line will be changed from single phase to three phases in 14 locations.
