Sanguem: The disturbing live footage of police team arriving at the residence of YouTuber Amit Naik at around 1.20 am and his wife questioning their presence during such odd hours has gone viral in the state.
Sanguem police led by a lady PSI arrived at the house of Amit Naik at Kasabwada, Netravali to arrest him for what is learnt to be a bailable offence.
A local girl has filed case against Naik for outraging her modesty through a YouTube video. The case was filed earlier last month after which Naik had already deposed before Sanguem police, submitting his say.
Team of policemen first arrived without any lady officer at the residence and later returned back with the lady PSI.
The video footage clearly shows Amit’s wife Raakhi Naik questioning them for their presence. The lady PSI is seen in the video informing Raakhi that they have come to search their house, but without any search warrant. They were looking out for Amit and they wanted to arrest him.
In the 40-minute-long video, it is also seen that Raakhi speaking to PI Pravin Gawas on loudspeaker of mobile phone wherein the officer confirms that the team was sent to arrest Amit.
When asked about FIR copy, the Police Inspector was seen asking Raakhi to apply for it under Right to Information.
The SC guidelines are very clear that the house cannot be searched after the evening and also it is right of the accused to know what is the complaint against him and what charges are pressed against him.
The Police Inspector was clearly seen violating both the rules of the SC.
Even as the live video was watched by several thousand people, the question is now raised as to why Police Inspector Pravin Gawas was in a hurry to arrest Amit in the mid-night when he could have been called at the police station next day.
Can PI arrest the accused without giving him any prior notice in bailable offences?
