Fatorda: The meeting of South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) approved the dream projects of Goa Forward Party Chief and Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai including restoration of the Old Market Tinto heritage and the multi-crore state-of-the-art wholesale fish market.
The projects like entrance gate to the city at Fatorda, upgradation of the entire heritage area around the Old market and others were also approved by SGDPA which met under the chairmanship of Renuka Da Silva.
The PDA also approved an ambitious market complex at Usgao-Ponda after razing down the existing market complex to make way for a new building.
Da Silva said that the meeting has given its stamp of approval for the state-of-the-art wholesale fish market at a cost of Rs 12 crore. The project would be executed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC).
The GSIDC gave a presentation to the PDA members on its wholesale fish market project which was finally approved by the Authority. “The wholesale fish market will be a ground plus one-storied complex with provision for offices and other logistics. The GSIDC will take up the market complex construction in two phases and will cater to the requirements of the wholesale fish business,” she said.
The meeting also approved the transfer of the SGPDA space at the PDA retail market to set up a world class food testing laboratory in the market. The PDA will hand over physical possession of the space to the Export Promotion Council to set up the food testing laboratory.
The PDA members were also given a presentation on the designs and plans in respect of the Tinto heritage restoration project at the Old market. This project will be taken up phase wise. The PDA has received suggestions from people of Old market, including facility for car parking, which will be taken up for consideration in due course of time.
