Saligao: Vasco citizens today cornered Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) chairman Ganesh Shetgaonkar and protested against its decision to revoke the suspension order relating to to coal handling at Mormugao Port Trust (MPT).
Citizens produced several sample packets filled with tissue paper containing grabs from various homes and offices in Vasco all of which were black with coal emission. They also produced several photographs. They protested revocation of suspension order without giving the citizens a hearing.
They told the Chairperson that the Board had no right to grant coal handlers consent to pollute the air of the city and damage the health of its residents.
The citizens have objected to grant of any renewal of consent to SWPL when the present consent expires on 31.3.2019. They have also objected to application by SWPL for enhancement of coal handling. They have filed objections to grant of common consent to MPT and to handling of coal at mooring dolphins.
