Two elected unopposed in Ponda Municipal polls
Ponda: Bharatiya Janata Party backed panel managed to crack into two of the three wards were one-to-one contest was on cards for upcoming Ponda Municipal polls.
The party managed to convince Independent candidate Bharat Purohit to withdraw from the fray resulting in unopposed victory of former PMC Chairperson Vishwajit Dalvi on Thursday.
This happened on Thursday morning while by afternoon, Dr Ketan Bhatikar led Ponda Rising Panel got a shock when its candidate Vidya Punalkar joined BJP. She joined BJP minutes after Sadanand Tanavade backed panel’s Darshana Naik withdrew from the fray.
Punalkar was seen posing for a picture with BJP Goa President Sadanand Shet Tanavade in Panaji head office.
Ponda municipal council election has 15 wards of which now, the election would be held in only 13.
