Panaji: Goa police on Saturday arrested two persons in connection with the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl at Vasco town in South Goa.
Superintendent of Police (South) Sunita Sawant told reporters on Saturday that two accused, both from Bihar, Murari Kumar Painter (24) and Upnesh Kumar (22) were arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a five year old girl at a construction site in Vasco.
Sawant said that the body of the girl was found in an unconscious state on Friday who was later pronounced dead after being brought to the nearby government run hospital.
She said that police had rounded up 20 labourers who were working at the construction site, who were interrogated by Vasco police.
The SP said that during the interrogation, it was revealed that one of the accused had trespassed into the room of victim’s mother on the earlier night and had tried to touch her inappropriately.
Victim’s father had informed the site supervisor about the incident on the same day, Sawant said.
She said that the accused were zeroed in after the detailed interrogation and both the accused have confessed of committing the crime.
Sawant said that the accused had come to Goa to work for the construction company, a year back from Bihar, while the victim’s family had come there nine months back.
