Porvorim: Sports minister Govind Gaude on Wednesday told the House that the Tilak Maidan at Vasco can be opened for the general public and students, provided “someone takes the responsibility.
”The issue was raised on the floor of the House by Vasco MLA Daji Krishna Salkar who demanded that the ground be used only for 30 out of 365 days and it should be open for the schools for their sports activities.
He said that such a massive sports infrastructure should not be left unused.
Responding to it, the minister said that there was no proposal or request to his department. “I also feel that Goan youth should be taking care of their health. But someone has to take the responsibility,” he said.
Gaude said that the stadium is of international standard. The ground is only for football facility. Till someone takes the responsibility we cannot consider the demand.
Salkar said that he is ready to take the lead so that the local sportsmen can use it. “We are ready to fulfil all the conditions and take the responsibility. Our children should be more on ground, then on mobile,” he added.
