Three by-elections,  27 candidates in the fray, maximum in Mapusa

Panaji: While there was straight fight between major political parties was expected during upcoming by-elections in Mandrem, Shiroda and Mapusa Assembly constituencies, the last day of nomination has indicated that there are at least 27 candidatures filed by different aspirants.

These candidatures also includes those dummies who would be withdrawing after the scrutiny tomorrow.

Mapusa Assembly Constituency with eleven aspirants top the list of segments with highest number of candidates, before scrutiny.

The assembly constituency where by-election is necessitated due to demise of Mapusa BJP MLA Francis D’Souza has his son Joshua contesting on Amit Shah led party ticket and Sudhir Kandolkar on Congress amongst the major contenders.

Total nine candidates have filled their forms from Shiroda constituency which has BJP’s Subhash Shirodkar, MGP’s Deepak Dhavalikar and Congress’ Mahadev  Naik pitted against each other.

There are seven candidates from Mandrem Assembly Constituency including Dayanand Sopte of BJP, Babi Bagkar of Congress and Jit Arolkar, an Independent.
