Mapusa: The Aam Aadmi Party slammed the Goa Govt for and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’souza for failing to clean up the Mapusa Tar river before Ganesh Chaturthi and the first day of Ganesh Visarjan. Despite multiple assurances and highly publicised meetings with no less than the CM, no serious action has been taken to clean up the river. The polluted state of the river has become a chronic problem but the hope was that the MLA and the Govt would get their act together before Ganesh Chaturthi.

In March 2021 an inspection found dead fish at the immersion site. It was also learnt that the water had turned black as well as stinking. Local residents said that from last several years they have been writing to local authorities to clean the river. Despite multiple complaints and interventions the situation has not improved. In the last two days AAP as highlighted how the BJP Govt has not done anything to improve roads before Ganesh Chaturthi. On top of bad roads they have also not paid attention to the Mapusa Tar River

AAP Goa has been highlighting the state of the river for close to a year now. AAP Goa Convenor Rahul Mhambre has consistently called out the Govt for tokenism of the Mapusa Tar river. He also said that BJP had made Mapusa residents miserable and that it was time to bring a change in Mapusa.

“On eve of Chavth as in every year CM Sawant and Mapusa MLA  Joshua do their usual routine affair. Every year we see Token statements and token pictures of them deciding on desilting the Tar River that they have turned into a sewer.MLAs from the BJP have made it a misery for residents of Mapusa town for many years. said AAP Goa Convenor Rahul Mhambre.
