Panaji: RTI Activist Rajan Ghate who has begun hunger strike demanding that CM Manohar Parrikar should step down, is increasingly getting political support.

Congress, Goa Suraksha Manch, Shiv Sena along with NGOs like Savera on Sunday visited Ghate at Azad Maidan, where he is currently sitting on a hunger strike.

The activist is demanding that Parrikar should step down to ensure smooth functioning of State Administration.

Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco after meeting Ghate said that BJP  should stop glorifying that CM is signing the document.

“Congress party has always understood his medical condition irrespective that he called us ‘chor’. There are videos which are going viral in which he has said that a politician should call it a day when he cannot function mentally and physically,” he said.

“You keep up your word. Lot many people from Goa will be telling you but don’t listen to them. I feel that Ghate is doing something which we have failed to do as elected representative,” Lourenco added.

“If Goans are not getting justice it is because of absence of CM and governance has come to a standstill,” he said.

“Even ministers within your own government have started criticizing him. cm should call it a day and close the chapter. None of us will talk about you, honorably I think you should exit,” he said.

GSM Chief Subhash Velingkar also met Ghate to express his support.

“Our friend Rajan Ghate is sitting on a hunger strike for genuine cause. Actually entire Goa should have had uprising over the issue. But Goans are tolerant,” he said.

“They have done such injustice to everyone. Even God will not pardon them. Ghate is representing aspiration of all the parties,” he said.

Velingkar suggested that all the parties and all NGOs will have to come together for the cause. “All the parties should come together forgetting our differences. The entire mess needs to be solved. Our full support is with Ghate,” he said.

Shiv Sena Spokesman Milind Gawas said that  four months back we have agitation `Dharkali’ at Panaji bus stand.

“We had said that the administration has come to standstill. What we said four months back is turning true now,” he added.

“Shiv sena was the first one to raise the issue. We had asked for dissolution of the government. Parrikar led government is not bothered about the people. We had even had signing campaign,” he said.

“We even went to Governor. But Governor is not interested in listening,” Gawas added.
