Minister for Water Resources, Shri Subhash Shirodkar visited and carried out an inspection of the Karmali Lake today. MLA, Shri Rajesh Phaldessai; Chief Engineer, Water Resources Department, Shri Pramod Badami; Executive Engineer, Shri Nazareth Vaz; Assistant Engineer, Shri Milind Gawde and others were present on the occasion. Shri Shirodkar also visited Pachmanas area.
Minister, Shri Shirodkar directed the WRD officials to accord priority to the cleanliness and maintenance of the Lake. Shri Shirodkar said, Karmali Lake is beautiful and the biggest lake of the State and there are so many opportunities to develop it. Lot of birds come to this lake and we can call this a small bird sanctuary. We should protect this lake because it has both historical and ecological importance, he observed.
The Forest Department has control over this lake and the Water Resources Department has taken initiative to develop it, he informed and added that the Water Resources Department has already prepared the estimate for developing the Lake and awaiting clearance from the Environment Council.
He said at the first instance, there is an urgent need to stop siltation of the Lake. We need to remove green wild growth from the lake and the upper side of the lake should be protected from encroachment. There is a need for conservation of Lakes of the State. Encroachment and pollution in any water body and lake should not be allowed, he remarked.
MLA, Shri Rajesh Phaldessai expressed hope to start development and beautification of the Lake soon. People will also get employment after development of this lake, he said.
