SGPDA Market to get Rs 25 crore makeover: Vijai Sardesai

Fatorda: The SGPDA retail fish market will now be kept clean using the Sweeper machine, which is usually used at the Airports. Goa Forward Party Chief and TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai commissioned the sweeping machine in the market, which is donated by PSU GAIL as a part of their CSR activity.

Sardesai  announced that the entire SGPDA market complex would be refurbished at the cost of Rs 25 crore for which the file has already been moved.

In yet another announcement, the Fatorda MLA said that the bigger machines would be utilized to clean the newly constructed roads in his constituency to upkeep them.

FROM AIRPORT TO FISH MARKET

The machine that is usually used to clean Airports in the world will now be cleaning the retail fish market upkeeping its cleanliness.

SGDPA Chairman Dr Renuka da Silva was present along with Sardesai during the commissioning ceremony of this machine which is donated by GAIL under its Corporation Social Responsibility initiative.

“American made SWINGO2100 Micro Floor Scrubber/Dryer/Sweeping Machine donated by GAIL India as a Corporate Social Responsibility to SGPDA for the retail fish market was commissioned today. Introducing technology to provide world class service to Goemkars is our target to take Fatorda and Goa Forward,” Sardesai tweeted.

The minister was seen personally checking the functionality of the machine by driving it in the market.

The SGPDA market had grabbed national attention when it was refurbished on lines with the one in Dubai. The Municipal corporations from across India had sent their representatives to study the fish market, the model of which could be copied in their areas.

“In fatorda constituencyit has always been my intention to raise the bar. The machine that is sweeping airport will now be used to sweep the fish market,” Sardesai said.

“ We have tried to give a good market. This is replica of what exists in Dubai. We want to create international standard amenities to the people,” he said.

IN FUTURE, FATORDA ROADS TO BE CLEANED WITH SWEEPING MACHINES

Sardesai said that  GAIL has been kind enough to sponsor it. Our target is to have clean all the good roads which we are doing with bigger machines. We have been constructing good roads, which needs to be kept clean.

Civic sense cannot be inculcated by issuing challan.

When market was refurbished none from congress party came. Their central observer came only to say that there is formalin in fish. Principle opposition party is only creating panic amongst people.

“The first challenge that we faced for the market is formalin. Formalin is not Goa made issue. It is something which from outside. We passed all the demands. I presume the controversy now is over.

Since we are talking about raising the bar I am following up keenly about setting up of a lab here,” he said.

INTERNATIONAL STANDARD LAB TO CHECK FOOD QUALITY

Sardesai said “We are talking about setting up of a lab here for which I am in constant touch with union commerce minister Suresh Prabhu. We want to set it earliest. Notwithstanding code of conduct which is actually tying our hands and legs.”

SGPDA ENTIRE MARKET COMPLEX TO BE UPGRADED

The minister said “We will be upgrading the other structures in the market. The file is pending since August with SGPDA.  The upgradation would be done through GSIDC by spending Rs 25 crore, for which chief minister has already given sanction.”
