Panaji: Goa cyber crime police arrested seven youths from Gujarat, Assam, Nagaland and Rajasthan for operating fake call centre from a hotel in North Goa.
Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime) Rahul Gupta said that the Cyber Crime Police raided a hotel at Calangute (NorthGoa) arresting all the seven accused.
“The accused persons were caught operating an illegal call center. They impersonated agents from loan companies, Amazon HQ staff, bank employees, government agencies, and law enforcement agencies, thereby cheating innocent citizens of the USA,” he said.
Gupta said that the accused Vishal Vaghela (34,Baroda, Gujarat), Acharya Balkrishna (28, Ahmedabad, Gujarat), H Puloto Awomi (20, Nagaland), Dhananjay Singh (27, Rajasthan), Chunjang Lung Rongmei (31, Assam), Inovi Zhimomi (21,Nagaland) and Vikito Kiho (21,Nagaland) were arrested by the police.
He said that the investigation revealed that the accused made voice calls to citizens of the USA. Those who continued with the calls were induced to transfer money.
Gupta said that a total of four laptops, one TP-Link router, and a D-Link switch were recovered from the accused.
The accused are arrested under sections 111 (2)(b) (unlawful activity), 319 (Impersonation), 318 (4) (fraud) of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and Section 66-D of Information Technology Act.
