Panaji: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane standing by the Resident Doctors working in different COVID-19 facilities has said that the State Executive Committee is not a parallel government to give its dictate against the welfare of the state.
The District Administration adhering to the directions of State Executive Committee headed by the Chief Secretary had ordered the Resident Doctors working in different COVID-19 facilities to vacate the accommodations given to them by the state government, close to their working place.
The Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) had warned to strike by withdrawing their services to these COVID-19 treatment facilities, if they are made to travel all the way to Goa Medical College and Hospital after withdrawing their accommodation facilities.
The Health Minister came immediately to the rescue of the GARD by taking up the issue with Chief minister Pramod Sawant. Visibly upset Rane said that SEC is not a parallel government which can take such decisions without taking the government into confidence.
He said that he would stand by the doctors who have been working round the clock to ensure that the COVID-19 patients are treated and state is kept safe.
This is for the second time that the SEC has taken similar decision within a month. Earlier in the first week of October, the committee had asked the doctors to share their accommodation with the fellow colleagues, which had triggered discontent amongst the doctors. At that time too, Rane had intervened in the matter, after which the circular was withdrawn.
