Panaji: NGO Savera today demanded that the main accused in the gangrape case reported at Betalbhatim beach in south goa should be given death penalty owing to his involvement in similar kind of cases back in the Indore.
Goa Police had arrested three men originally from Indore for raping a girl infront of her husband on last Thursday and clicking their objectionable pictures.
Vishwas Makrana (23), Sanjiv Dhananjay Pal (23) and Ram Santosh Bhariya (19) were arrested within 48 hours of the incident by South Goa police. Makrana, who is the main accused in gangrape case, is also involved in similar kind of cases back in Indore, the police had said.
“Since the age of 13, the main accused (Makrana) is involved in so many criminal cases such as rape, murder and robbery. The Madhya Pradesh police could not nab him,”said Tara Kerkar, President of Savera NGO, which has been assisting South goa police in the gangrape case.
“We doubt that there could be some MP police personnel helping him to stay away from the law enforcers due to which he could remain out of bound so far,” Kerkar said.
The NGO has said that there could be many other women that the accused have been harassing and blackmailing but due to the fear of society they fail to report it, she said.
Kerkar has said that such a person should be given death penalty considering his involvement in several crimes.
She has also objected to handing over of all the accused to Madhya Pradesh police till the trial in case against him in Goa is over. “If the police hand over these accused to MP police, there is every possibility that they may escape from their custody,” Kerkar said.
“The police should charge-sheet the accused as soon as possible so that the court can fast track the case. Even when the accused is taken from one place to another, there should be at least three policemen escorting them,” she said.
