Relief for all road accident victims irrespective of insurance: Transport Minister

Panaji: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Thursday informed that  the department will provide benefits of Goa State Compensation Road Accident Victim Scheme to all road accident victims, irrespective of their insurance cover.

The transport minister disbursed Sanction order to 22 beneficiaries under the Goa State Compensation Road Accident Victim Scheme.

Addressing reporters on this occasion Godinho said that the department will provide benefits of Goa State Compensation Road Accident Victim Scheme to all road accident victims, irrespective of their insurance cover.
Talking about the key features of this scheme Goninho said, the injured person as well as the family of the deceased  person will get compensation if the accident happened on the road.
“Scheme has been here for a while but we had not publicized,” he said.
Adding that till now 122 people have been benefited from this scheme Godinho said, “Road accidents can be reduced but are not completely unavoidable hence the government has provided relief to the victims under this scheme. One can apply within 6 months to claim the benefits,” Godinho said.
“If 6 months pass due to unavoidable reasons we will condone the delay if reasons are satisfactory,” added Godinho.
Godinho also said, “I am publicising this scheme now as covid19 pandemic has brought about various hardships onto us, this govt scheme will provide a good relief to the common man.”
The application will be screened within two weeks of its submission. The applicant can also fill the form online, Godinho informed.
He also informed that the Motor Vehicle Act, which had been deferred because of the coronavirus pandemic is likely to be implemented from January 1, 2021.
