Rape victim meets Goa CM, complaints about fear to her life

Panaji: A rape victim on Tuesday met Goa chief minister Pramod sawant in his chamber during lunch break of ongoing legislative assembly session complaining about threat to her life, after she filed the complaint.

The victim in her late 20s accompanied by social worker Pratima Coutinho and counsellor Alisha met the chief minister in his chamber at Porvorim.

Talking to reporters outside the assembly complex, the victim told reporters that she was being threatened for filing a rape case against one Lezio Fernandes (32), who allegedly raped her under pretext of getting married.

The victim said that on Tuesday when she was returning home in South Goa on her bike from the court which had rejected anticipatory bail application of the accused, she was stopped by two persons who asked her to withdraw the case.

She said that the accused has been absconding since January 25 2024 when the FIR was filed against him for rape and cheating at Women’s police station in Panaji.

The victim has filed formal complaint of threatening with Women’s Police station on Wednesday.

Coutinho said that the chief minister has assured that the accused would be arrested by tonight (Wednesday). She said that CM was upset over the incident and has assured that the accused will not be spared.

She said the police are not able to trace the accused, who has been missing from the time, case is filed against him. Coutinho said that there are no enough attempts made by the police to trace the accused.
