Panaji: Goa Legislative Assembly speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Wednesday announced that he would be constructing a house for a sibling who was left orphaned and homeless in Arag village of Miraj in Maharashtra.

Tawadkar has been mentoring Shram Dham scheme under which he has constructed twenty homes for needy people in his constituency of Canacona in South Goa.

The speaker said that he has decided to extend his work to Maharashtra’s Arag village after he received a request from local panchayat.

“The panchayat has requested me to help the family. It is my duty to ensure that they are helped by roping in various social institutions and philanthropists,” he said.

Arag panchayat sarpanch S S Naik, in the letter written to the Speaker, has mentioned that minor siblings of Pawar family are left orphaned when their father died in the year 2018 and mother in the year 2019.

The panchayat has requested Tawadkar to help them in building their home, which is currently in a dilapidated condition.

Tawadkar has mentored the concept of Shram Dham under which he constructed 20 houses which were handed over to the beneficiaries by speaker of Lok Sabha Om Birla last year.
