Porvorim: Even as Goa legislative assembly discussed the issue of tiger killings in the state, NCP MLA Churchill Alemao suggested that the tigers should be punished for eating cows.
“What is the punishment for tiger, when he eats cow. When human being eats cow, he is punished,” he said participating in the ‘Calling Attention’ motion on Tiger Killings during ongoing budget session of the assembly on Wednesday.
Alemao said “as far as wildlife is concerned, tiger is important but as far as human beings are concerned, cows are important.”
The MLA said that the human angle in the entire episode should not be ignored.
State forest department has arrested five people for killing four tigers in Mahadayi wildlife sanctuary in January, 2020.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant answering the calling attention motion said that the killings were reported to be part of revenge by the villagers whose livestock was attacked by tigers.
He said that the compensation would be paid to the victims within three-four days, if his livestock is killed by wild animals.
