Mandrem: On 29/11/2024, during routine patrolling in the PS area, at around 21:00 hrs, the police staff of Mandrem PS reached near Arambol Junction. They received reliable information from sources that one Ms. Sharmin Shaikh alias Maria, a resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, had procured girls from outside Goa for the purpose of prostitution. She was allegedly supplying them to customers for prostitution and was presently engaged in this activity near Arambol Parking area, Arambol, Goa.
Based on the information, a raid was conducted with the assistance of ARZ NGO, during which two girls from West Bengal, aged 25 and 34 years, were rescued from Hotel Laxmi House at Arambol, Pernem, Goa. The victims were subsequently lodged in the Protective Home, Apna Ghar, Merces.
In connection with this, Mandrem PS registered Cr. No. 85/2024 under sections 143(3) BNS and sections 4, 5, and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
The accused, Ms. Sharmin Shaikh, daughter of Najirbhai Shaikh, alias Maria, aged 42 years, a resident of Room No. 17-A, Kubernagar near Bhanu Vidyalaya, Kekadiya Vas, Ahmedabad, Shardanagar PS, Gujarat, and currently residing in Arambol, Pernem, was arrested for procuring and forcing the victim women into prostitution and profiting from prostitution activities by supplying them to customers.
The entire operation was carried out under the supervision of SP North Shri Akshat Kaushal and the guidance of SDPO Pernem Shri Ashish Shirodkar.
Further investigation of the case is ongoing.
