Panaji: Water Resources Department Minister Subhash Shirodkar has said that the central government constituted PRAWAH Authority has accepted Goa’s request for joint inspection of Mhadei river basin.

Shirodkar said that Goa government had written letter to Mhadei Progressive River Authority for Water and Harmony (PRAWAH) for joint inspection at Kankumbi (Karnataka) after media reports claimed that neighbouring Karnataka has started digging canals to divert water to Malaprabha basin.

The neighbouring state has planned to construct a dam at Kankumbi to divert Mhadei water into Malaprabha basin.

Shirodkar said that on Wednesday, Goa government has received a response from PRAWAH wherein the authority has agreed for joint inspection by all the three states — Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa of Mhadei basin.

The Mhadei river runs through all the three states.

Goa and Karnataka are in a dispute over diversion of Mhadei river water. Goa has filed a petition before Supreme Court challenging the order of inter state water dispute tribunal of sharing the Mhadei water.

Shirodkar said that the PRAWAH has asked all the states to give the dates, as per their convenience, to conduct the inspection.
