Panaji: The decision of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to take over the rights of private hospitals for covid management will go down as a historic decision that will provide relief to thousands of people suffering from the virus.
The historic announcement on Saturday and its actual implementation on Monday will result in increase of bed capacity in the private hospitals.
Besides this, it will also provide place for the covid-19 patients, who had to shell out lakhs of rupees as deposit.
I know few cases in the state where patients were asked to deposit up to Rs one lakh before he was admitted in the hospital.
The private hospitals were outrightly refusing to accept DDSSY cards claiming that the government owes them the dues.
The chief minister’s decision will also save the patients and their families from facing financial strains.
The real challenge before the government is to ensure that this decision is implemented in letter and spirit.
The government officers posted in the respective hospitals should understand the essence of this decision and implement it so that the people of Goa who are fighting back the bad phase find some solace.
