Panaji: The postmortem conducted on the body of Diksha Gangwar, who was allegedly killed by her manager husband Gaurav Katiyar has revealed that she died due to smothering, a senior forensic official said on Tuesday.
A senior official attached to District Hospital in Margao said that the postmortem conducted on the body of 27-year-old Diksha has revealed that she was smothered to death in sandy water. The body of Diksha was found at Cabo de Rama beach in South Goa.
Diskha’s husband Gaurav Katiyar, who is working as a restaurant manager for a South-Goa based five star hotel, was arrested by Cuncolim police on Saturday (Jan 20).
The official said that the postmortem conducted on her body has also shown injury marks on her chest, which are indicative of the struggle before she died.
Cuncolim police are currently interrogating the accused.
Deputy superintendent of Police Santosh Desai said that various angles are being investigated by the investigating officer.
When asked whether there is an angle of dowry harassment in this case, Desai said that nothing is ruled out and all the angles are probed. The family members of Diskha had accused Gaurav of harassing her for dowry.
Meanwhile, Bailancho Ekvott, a women rights organisation from Goa, have written letter to the District Collector to enquire angle of dowry harassment into the death of Diksha. The organisation on Tuesday wrote letter to the District Collector, pointing out to the statement of her family members appearing in the local media which claimed that the deceased was being harassed for dowry by the accused.
